Negative keywords stop your ad from showing on the search terms you name, no matter what else you bid on.
You add a term as negative phrase or negative exact, and Amazon excludes matching searches from the campaign or ad group. You feed these from the search term report as wasteful matches surface.
You sell premium cookware. You add "cheap" as a negative phrase, so searches like "cheap cookware set" stop triggering your ad and stop draining budget.
Negatives only come in phrase and exact. There is no negative broad, so a single negative exact blocks one term and its close variants only; broad junk needs a negative phrase or a list of exacts, not one entry.
Every wasted term is a negative you have not added yet.
