Sponsored Products are cost-per-click ads that promote a single product listing in search results and on product detail pages, targeted by keyword or by product.
You pick a listing, then choose automatic targeting where Amazon matches your ad to relevant searches, or manual targeting where you supply your own keywords and product targets and set bids. You pay only when someone clicks.
Someone searches "reusable water bottle," your bottle appears in a slot labeled Sponsored at the top of results, and you pay your bid amount only if they click through.
Automatic campaigns are a research tool, not a destination. People leave everything on auto and let Amazon spend against loose matches for months. Mine the search term report, pull the converting terms into manual campaigns, and add the junk as negatives.
This is where most Amazon ad revenue actually comes from.
