Enhanced Measurement

In one lineAuto-tracked scrolls, outbound clicks, and downloads.
Enhanced Measurement illustration

Enhanced measurement is a GA4 setting that automatically tracks common web interactions without extra code.

When you turn it on for a web data stream, GA4 starts capturing scrolls, outbound clicks, site searches, video engagement, and file downloads on its own. You get these events without touching a tag or writing a line of tracking.

A visitor scrolls to the bottom of a page and clicks a PDF link. With enhanced measurement on, GA4 logs a scroll event and a file_download event automatically, no setup required.

Automatic does not mean correct for your site. Enhanced measurement guesses at things like what counts as a site search, and it can misfire or double-count on single-page apps that do not reload between screens. Check what it is actually recording before you trust it.

It tracks the obvious stuff for free. Verify it anyway.
