Google Ads linking is the connection between a GA4 property and a Google Ads account that shares audiences and key-event conversions into Ads and imports Ads cost data into GA4.
You set it up from the property's admin under product links, with the right permissions on both sides. Once linked, GA4 audiences and conversions flow into Ads for targeting and bidding, and Ads campaign, cost, and click data flow into GA4 so your acquisition and advertising reports show real spend against Google traffic.
You link the two, mark generate_lead as a key event, and import it into Google Ads as a conversion. Smart Bidding now optimizes toward that lead, while GA4's reports show cost and ROAS for the campaigns driving it, in one place.
The link is not the same as tagging. Linking shares data between the two products, but accurate attribution still depends on auto-tagging being on so GA4 can stitch clicks to sessions. Link without auto-tagging and your Ads traffic can land in organic or referral instead.
Link both ways, tag one way, check both.
