Affinity Audiences

Affinity Audiences are broad, interest-based segments Google builds around people's lifestyles and habits, used for upper-funnel reach.

You use these when you want to get in front of a type of person rather than someone with their hand already up. If you run a specialty coffee brand, you can attach an affinity segment like coffee lovers and reach people whose long-run behavior says coffee is part of who they are. These segments are built from sustained interests and passions, not a recent burst of shopping activity, so they cast a wide net across everyone who fits the lifestyle you care about.

You lean on affinity when the job is awareness and consideration, not immediate sales. Say you are launching a new product and nobody knows the name yet. Running a video or Display campaign against a relevant affinity segment puts your message in front of a big, on-brand crowd for a reasonable spend of rupees, seeding recognition you can convert later with in-market segments or remarketing.

Be honest about the trade-off. Affinity segments are broad and low-intent by design. They are excellent for getting in front of the right kind of person, but a poor fit when you need people ready to buy right now, and pointing a conversion campaign straight at them usually produces cheap clicks and thin results. Match the audience to what the campaign is actually being asked to do.

Use affinity to introduce yourself, not to close.
