Conversions

Conversions is the objective that optimizes for on-site actions such as checkouts, sign-ups, and add-to-cart events.

You install the Pinterest tag or send events through the conversions API, define which event matters, and Pinterest optimizes delivery toward users likely to complete it. Because the auction learns from your event data, the campaign needs a steady flow of conversions to stabilize before performance settles. This is the objective for direct response.

An apparel store sets the optimization event to Checkout, feeds purchase data through the tag, and Pinterest starts favoring audiences and Pins that produce completed orders rather than cheap clicks.

Thin event data starves the algorithm. If your optimization event fires only a handful of times a week, the campaign never exits learning and delivery stays erratic. Optimize toward a higher-volume upper event, like add-to-cart, until purchase volume is enough to support it.

No tag, no signal, no conversions campaign worth running.
