A standard Pin ad is a single promoted image, the plainest and most common Pinterest ad format.
You promote one still image, built to a 2:3 vertical ratio at 1000 by 1500 pixels, with a title, description, and destination link. It looks like an organic Pin in the feed, which is the point, and it works for almost any objective. This is the format you reach for first because it is fast to produce and easy to test.
A candle brand promotes a single lifestyle shot of a lit candle on a nightstand, sized 1000 by 1500, linking straight to that product page.
The wrong aspect ratio costs you feed space. A square or landscape image gets cropped or shows smaller, so a Pin that ignores 2:3 loses real estate to competitors who filled the vertical frame. Design to the ratio, do not crop into it.
One image, vertical, native-looking. The workhorse.
