A Carousel or Photo Ad is a single ad made of multiple still images that viewers swipe through in the feed.

You upload up to a set of images instead of a video, and TikTok stitches them into one swipeable post that sits in the For You feed like any other. Someone stops, swipes from the first frame to the next, and reads at their own pace. It suits products that make more sense shown one angle at a time, like a furniture set, a menu, or a before and after.

Say you sell running shoes. You put the shoe on frame one, the sole tech on frame two, a customer wearing them on frame three, and the price and offer on the last. Open your own Ads Manager, load a Carousel ad, and watch the swipe-through rate per card so you can see exactly which image people quit on.

The catch is that stills do not get the same reach as native video on a video-first app. TikTok rewards motion and sound, so a carousel often needs a sharper first frame and a stronger hook line to earn the same attention a short clip gets for free.

Great for showing detail, but you are still swimming upstream on a video app.
