Google Tag Manager is a free tool that lets you add and manage tracking tags on your site through a dashboard, instead of editing the site's code every time.
You install GTM once, and after that every new tag, whether it is a Meta pixel, a GA4 tag, or a conversion snippet, goes into the GTM dashboard rather than into your website files. You set rules, called triggers, for when each tag should fire, and you publish. No developer, no code deploy.
For example, you want to track when someone clicks your "Book a call" button. In GTM you make a trigger that watches for that click, attach your conversion tag to it, hit preview to confirm it fires, then publish. It goes live in seconds.
The honest catch is that GTM makes it easy to create a mess. Tags pile up, duplicate, and fire twice, and because anyone with access can publish, you can quietly break your own tracking without noticing until the numbers look wrong weeks later.
Power tool for your tracking, and power tools cut both ways.
