The Awareness objective tells Meta to get your ad in front of as many of the right people as it can, optimizing for being seen and remembered rather than for clicks or sales.
Sometimes you need people to know you exist before you ask them to buy anything, and Awareness is the top-of-funnel objective built for exactly that. You are not paying for actions here, you are paying for eyeballs: Meta optimizes for reach, for impressions, and for the chance people actually remember your ad, not for whether they click or convert. It is the objective for a launch, for brand building, and for filling the top of the funnel that your sales campaigns will later harvest.
This matters because judged on the wrong yardstick it looks like a disaster. Awareness campaigns have few clicks and no direct sales by design, so if you measure one on ROAS you will switch off something that was doing its real job, which is making your later sales cheaper by warming people up first. It answers a different question than your performance campaigns, and it has to be read against a different number.
Awareness is the easiest objective to waste, because being seen is the lowest bar Meta can clear. It will happily spend your money showing the ad to people who will never care, and report a big reach number back to you. Only run it when you have a real reason to buy attention ahead of demand, and always pair it with a way to catch the people it warms up, or you are simply paying to be forgotten.
Awareness buys memory, not sales, so run it only when you have somewhere to send the people who remember.
