Shops and Checkout

In one lineSelling on Meta itself, where availability varies.
Shops and Checkout illustration

Shops and Checkout is selling on Meta itself, a storefront on your Facebook or Instagram, sometimes with buying finished on-platform, instead of sending people to your own website.

You can build a Shop that lives on your Facebook Page and Instagram profile, so someone browsing can tap a product and see it laid out without leaving the app. For a while, some sellers could also let people pay right there through native checkout, no trip to your site at all. It felt like the whole sale could happen inside Meta.

That convenience came with a catch, and the catch has grown. Native on-platform checkout was mostly a United States feature to begin with, and Meta has been winding it down, pushing sellers to send buyers to their own website or another checkout method to complete the purchase. So in many cases the Shop is now a browsing surface, and the actual buying happens on your site.

The honest catch is that on-platform checkout availability is region-dependent and has genuinely changed, so confirm what is live for your market and account today rather than trusting an old tutorial. And weigh the trade honestly: a Shop with on-Meta buying is convenient, but you hand over control of the checkout, the data, and the customer relationship that a website keeps in your hands.

Convenient to sell on, but read the fine print before you build your store on someone else's floor.
